This is a friendly estimate based on common veterinary aging charts. Individual pets age differently โ your vet is the best judge of your pet's real life stage.
How pet years are calculated
The old "multiply by 7" rule isn't accurate. Pets age fastest early in life and then slow down. A common veterinary model counts the first year as about 15 human years, the second year as about 9 more (roughly 24 by age two), and then a steady number of years for each year after โ about 4 for cats and small dogs, and more for larger dogs.
When is a pet a "senior"?
Cats are usually considered senior around 11. Dogs vary by size: small breeds around 10โ11, medium around 8โ9, large around 7, and giant breeds as early as 6. Reaching the senior stage is a good moment to focus on joint support, comfortable bedding, and twice-yearly vet checks.
